Real Estate Sales
The tiny home revolution is in full swing! Once a fringe concept, it has since grown in popularity and is proving to be a viable alternative home solution. I’ve outlined three of the key reasons for and against making the switch to tiny home living.
Gratitude would be the term that I would use to describe my real estate career. Above everything else, it gave me the opportunity to restart my life and realise the Australian dream. While there are a lot of positives with a real estate career, there are some noticeable negatives. I’ve outlined below some of the hidden costs in pursuing a real estate career.
We’ve lived in four different suburbs since moving to Australia. Incidentally, we have spent a greater amount of time in each new suburb. While we grew more knowledgeable of the Perth area over time, we also became more selective of our living preferences.
As a homeowner or property investor, there will likely be a time when you have to consider selling your home. For example, your current home no longer meets the requirements of your growing family. Alternatively, you may not realise the expected appreciation on the property, and may be better suited buying or building elsewhere. Notwithstanding the reason, the sale of a home presents a significant milestone in a person’s real estate journey.
I would credit strong client relationship building skills as the single biggest reason for my success in real estate. My career’s success was measured not by my sales conversion rate or total number of houses sold, but instead by how many client relationships I could procure and cultivate.
As a first home buyer, you can objectively possess a wealth of information on the real estate market at the touch of your fingertips. A quick Google search of your current property market will yield numerous search results on home median prices, suburb attraction metrics, general market trends, and other housing data that may or may not be useful.
If you want to be a real estate sales consultant, you must be good with people. Your tools of the trade are your words, your overall knowledge base, your ability to persuade, your integrity, and general likability. It is as if you are selling yourself to the customer more than the product itself. If you master only the tools outlined above, you can yield a considerable amount of success in real estate, but I can assure you that it will be short-lived.
Prior to selling homes, I had 15 years of sales experience under my belt. I had an intimate understanding of the sales process, how to present myself, how I should communicate, and most importantly, what should I do when things start to go sideways. I began my real estate career armed with this confidence, but in hindsight, it was more akin to hubris. What I realised after the first few weeks on the job was that no past sales experience can fully equip you for selling homes.
When I started my career in real estate nearly 20 years ago, I could not fathom that I would one day write a post titled “7 Important Lessons To Be Successful In Real Estate”. To be honest, my entry into the industry was not blessed with a smoothly laden path. Having sales experience is one thing, but that experience loses its emphasis if you do not possess an intimate knowledge of what you are selling.
Real estate as a profession can be challenging, stressful, irritating, agitating…. you name it! With that being said, looking back on a career that spanned over two decades, I am forever indebted for the experience, and I would certainly encourage young and old alike to genuinely consider the profession as a fruitful career path.
